The Vietnam Sustainable Climate Change Adaptation Network (V-SCCAN) is the online home of VGBC and its SCCA working groups. The VGBC supports green building, urban planning, and infrastructure development in Viet Nam, in the context of adaptation to the effects of global climate change. V-SCCAN is a bilingual site; authors may post, and users may comment, in English and/or Vietnamese.

The Bulletin will no longer be posted on the VGBC homepage please click the bulletin link on the left hand side of the page to view the current and archived bulletins.

Objectives

Our objectives are to facilitate the construction and renovation of sustainable, resilient, climate change adapted buildings and neighborhoods, by defining nationally and internationally recognized assessment tools LOTUS.

They can be defined as follows:

1. Creation of a Green Building Rating Tool for Vietnam

The purpose of LOTUS is to provide a recognizable framework for sustainable building in Vietnam. It is market-based "green adaptation" system and is modeled on existing international GB systems (LEED, Green Star, Green Mark...). To learn more about the LOTUS rating system and to see a list of current LOTUS pilot projects see our LOTUS page.

2. Raising the awareness about sustainable and adaptive buildings in Vietnam

VGBC intends to become the focal agency for all sustainable technologies, practices, products, researches and design for the built environment. A yearly workshop has been organized by VGBC in 2008, and it aims to be perpetuated on a yearly basis. Many national and international experts are brought by VGBC to raise the general awareness level about green practices. For more information about the out efforts to promote green awareness see our News and Events page or to view our current awareness resources see our Resources page.

3. Development of long-term researches on Climate Change resilience

Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction has asked VGBC to develop national “green Adaptation” building standards and codes derived from the Lotus system. Both regulatory and market-based approaches are necessary, as low-income, government-sponsored projects will respond only to the former.

VGBC is partnering with Academia to launch long-term researches about climate change adaptation measures. Currently, in collaboration with RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) Center for Design, and with IESE (Institute of Environmental Science and Technology Hanoi). VGBC researchers are conducting joint researches to assess about the vulnerability of low-income housing areas, and develop CC adaptive techniques.

Our activities are also leading us to develop close contact with World Bank, UN Habitat, Rockefeller Foundation, etc, which are all initiating surveys about climate change in Vietnam.

The SHUR (Sustainable Housing and Urban Resilience) project has been define to work on the definition of climate change adaptation components directly applicable in building codes for Low Income Housing construction program launch by the government.

MISSION

Facilitate: Facilitate green building and emissions reductions.

Educate: Educate key sectors on sustainable, climate-change-adapted building.

Adapt: Help adapt buildings infrastructure to potential impacts of climate change.
